Union Springs, Hardaway, and the Porch Where This All Started
People ask us all the time where "Bless Yer Heart Co." actually came from — like it was dreamed up in a marketing meeting somewhere. It wasn't. It came from a front porch in Union Springs, Alabama.
I'm Tyler Pierce, and Union Springs is home. It's a small town in Bullock County where everybody's kin to everybody one way or another, where church lets out and the whole parking lot turns into a second service, and where the women in my family could turn a sentence into a personality without raising their voice once. That's where I first learned that Southern isn't just an accent — it's a whole way of saying things sideways.
Just Down the Road: Hardaway
A few miles from Union Springs sits Hardaway, Alabama — blink and you'll miss it, but everybody who's from there will tell you it's got more personality per square foot than towns ten times its size. It's the kind of place where everybody's business is everybody's business, which is exactly why "What Happens in Hardaway, Stays in Hardaway" became a running joke in my family long before it ended up on a t-shirt.
Sedgefields, Bird Dogs, and Field Trials
This part of Alabama is bird dog country. Sedgefields Plantation and the quail fields around it shaped a lot of my childhood — watching pointers and setters work a field with more focus than most people bring to their entire lives. I grew up around field trials, where dogs and handlers are judged on instinct, obedience, and grit, out on rolling Black Belt land that doesn't give up its secrets easy. Read the fuller story of Bullock County's field trial legacy if you want to go deeper.
That world taught me patience, and it taught me pride in doing something right, slow, and well. That's the same standard we hold every saying and every shirt to.
Family, First and Always
None of this works without my family. The sayings on this site aren't inside jokes we made up — they're things I actually heard, growing up, from people who are still the funniest and sharpest people I know. Every product in our Union Springs & Hardaway Heritage collection is a small tribute to them.
So when you see "Bless Yer Heart" on a mug, or a bird dog stitched on a hoodie, know it's not a stock graphic. It's Union Springs. It's Hardaway. It's Sedgefields. It's home.

Go Deeper on Union Springs History
If you want more than the porch version, we've written up the fuller history too: how Union Springs got its name, the town's civil rights history, and the night Hank Williams played here.
